Reading List - Book Two

One Second After is a 2009 novel by American writer William R. Forstchen

New York Times Bestselling Author William R. Forstchen Tells A Story That Might Be All Too Terrifyingly Real. A story in which one man struggles to save his family and his small North Carolina town after America loses a war that sends our nation back to the Dark Ages. A war lost because of a terrifying weapon, an Electromagnetic Pulse (EMP) … that may already be in the hands of our enemies. Months before publication, One Second After has already been cited on the floor of Congress as a book all Americans should read. It has been discussed in the corridors of the Pentagon as a realistic look at EMPs and their awesome ability to send catastrophic shockwaves throughout the United States, literally within seconds. EMPs are a weapon that The Wall Street Journal warned could shatter our nation. In the tradition of On The Beach, Fail-Safe, and Testament, this book, set in a typical American town, is a dire warning of what might be our future … and our end.

Again, the same personal friend recommend that I read this book right after Patriots (see previous post).  He said this was the dirty side of an emergency.  I found this book to be completely opposite of Patriots.  This book was disturbing.  Although fictional, Forstchen introduces "human un-kindness" at it's worse, into this possible situation.   The "bad" in people comes out, the need to survive... and what one might do, to stay alive and survive until help comes.  Full of good ideas for the "preppers" (which I am one of), this book is a must read.

Reading List - Book One

PATRIOTS - A Novel of Survival In the Coming Collapse - James Wesley, Rawles - Paperback $14.99

"America faces a full-scale socioeconomic collapse in the near future. The stock market plummets, hyperinflation cripples commerce and the mounting crisis passes the tipping point. Practically overnight, the fragile chains of supply and high-technology infrastructure fall, and wholesale rioting and looting grip every major city..."

Just finished reading this book that was suggested to me by a close personal friend and a "like minded individual."  He said that I should talk a look at it and I'm so glad that he did.  The book describes a group of friends who felt that one day, our sociality would collapse and decided to start to prepare. The book is in-depth and goes into great detail on the equipment they purchased and why, and later on after the event, what worked and what did not.  Some I have discussed the book with, call it a Bible for Survival, that is a little much for me, but I can really see it as a guide.  One of the best features of this book is this.  In one chapter, the group discuss the need for a "_______ " (not going to give it away).  They not only announce they will build this item, but they go into detail about the construction process. Sizes, materials and where they found the parts.  Very impressed with this book!  Also, in the back of the book is a glossary of items mentioned in the book along with page numbers.  When they used some specialty item, they listed manufactures where the item could be purchased.

An easy to read and understand book.  If you are interested in these possible situations, I would urge you to get your hands on a copy.

In future blogs, I plan to discuss other reading materials and pass along projects that I'm working on, what works and what does not...

So there you go, my first blog ever... LOL.  Hope you enjoy!
